As professional speakers, we all know our subject -What to say-
But how often do we think of How to say what we say?
We'll call that "The Art of speaking”…what turns a presentation into a performance…and hopefully an unforgettable one.
Our initial series will consist of three sessions this calendar year, focusing on this concept…The Art of Speaking and is a complement to our chapter’s every other month sessions, which have included improvisation, acting skills, etc.
The first session will be titled "The Art of Speaking…Beyond Words."
We'll discuss a video interview, conducted in front of a live audience by Terry Gross from NPR, of Yo-Yo Ma, the famous cellist.
We’ll focus on the essences of what he is saying, his smiles, his gesticulations, his tonality, his pauses, his touching stories, to name a few, and what makes him such an especially engaging and entertaining person to interview...besides his cello playing.
Importantly, we plan to relate these qualities to our own presentations, hoping to add a WOW quality to our own performances.
At least a week before the session you’ll be sent a link to the interview for you, if you wish, to review. During the actual session we will stop during the interview to point out many insights…and ask you for your own, as they relate to The Art of Speaking…Beyond Words.
While we hope you’ll preview the one hour interview, it will not be necessary.
Our hope is that this session will be something that you have never experienced before...and that you'll ask for more.
